About The Course
Our Premium PADI Open Water Diver Course takes place over 4 days. Days 1 & 2 have a mini theory assessment, plus your confined water sessions where we teach you the essential skills in a sheltered diving environment. On days 3 & 4 we'll explore the ocean with 2 "Open Water" dives on each day!
Think of it this way - the first half of the course is skills based with a little bit of exploration, and the second half is exploration with a few skills thrown in!
Before You Start
Around 2 weeks before the course starts, you'll receive an email directly from PADI with a link to your e-learning for the course. This is an awesome, interactive learning platform that is perfectly complimented by the in-person Instruction you'll experience when you're with us. This does need to be completed before the course starts, so please set aside some time for this.
Days 1 & 2
On your first day, you'll meet us at our store in Oneroa (click here for directions) where you'll be introduced to your PADI Instructor and your course mates. Together over a tea / coffee you'll complete your paperwork before being allocated your equipment for the course.
Once you're all ready and packed, you'll head down to the chosen beach location to begin your initial training!
These first days really focus on the 'skills' of diving, so we will teach you everything from assembling your equipment right through to how to control your positioning underwater and so much more!
At the end of each day you'll return to the store to clean and sort your equipment, before reviewing the day with your Instructor (with more tea and biscuits of course!) and making sure that any and all questions have been answered.
Your second day follows the same pattern as the first, but once you're back after your dives you'll complete a mini-quiz to make sure that your e-learning has sunk in and to make sure that we can identify any areas that you might benefit from a little extra teaching time.
Days 3 & 4
On days 3 & 4, we follow a very similar pattern to the start of your course except that we put your new skills to good use on 2 'Open Water' shore dives each day!
These dives allow you to demonstrate what you've learnt on dives that are just like the kind of 'real' dives you'll be doing once you're certified, except your Instructor is there to guide you through the whole process. There are some skills to complete for your Instructor but, don't worry, they're nothing that you won't have done before - no surprises! This is where it starts to feel like you're a real diver!
After our dives we'l head back to the store, clean and sort the equipment plus log our dives in your logbooks. As always, a thorough debrief with your Instructor helps to really set your learning in your mind, and gives you areas to work on.
On your last day, we tend to order some pizza in too so that we can sit around and chat about the amazing marine life that you've seen in this new underwater world!
Once you've completed all your dives and skills to a level that your Instructor is happy with, we then process your certifications and you are awarded the title of PADI Open Water Diver! A massive congratultions from us - a new world of incredible adventures awaits you!
Why Choose Us?
This is a really important question! It's essential that you feel comfortable and confident with your dive school of choice.
Diving is loads of fun, but it's also 'serious' fun like all adventure sports, so you need to be sure that you are learning these essential skills to keep you safe in the very best way that you can.
For us - this means that our philosophy is 'over and above' at all levels, which is why we offer a 'Premium' experience when learning to dive with us.
We are a 5 Star Reviewed, Qualmark GOLD Award winning dive store.
We do everything that we can to make sure that you have an extremely fun and enjoyable experience. We really do want you to have the best learning experience possible, and this is reflected in our customer reviews (check them out on Facebook, Google & Tripadvisor).
We were also STOKED to be awarded a Qualmark GOLD Award on our very first assessment! Click here to learn about our awards
We are an Accredited Adventure Activity Operator (AAO)
This means that we are registered with Worksafe NZ as an Adventure Tourism Operator, and that our activities and safety systems are independently audited annually to make sure that we are doing everything we can to let you have an adventure as safely as possible. Your safety is always our top priority.
You can look us up on the Worksafe website if you like - we're AAO #4210 - Click here
We believe that you deserve to learn in the best way possible
This is why we only teach in small groups. The maximum you'll find on our courses is 4 students to 1 staff (half of what is the most common group size in NZ of 8 to 1).
This means that you get more instructor time for personalised learning and more time in and under the water to practice your skills. We believe in making 'divers' not just people who can dive!
We believe your learning should be fun and accessible
This is why you'll find that all our courses have the Full PADI E-learning as standard. With digital learning you get to cover the theory at your own pace before your course starts, wherever you happen to be! Want to knock out a 30 min session before dinner? How about on the bus to work? With e-learning it's easy!
Don't worry though - we know that in-person tuition is essential to helping you learn, which is why we have in-person revision sessions built into your course too, so you can ask us all those 'what about...' questions that are so important! Best of both worlds!
ZERO Hidden Costs
We supply every single piece of equipment that you need to use during the course, including masks, snorkels, fins, boots etc so there are no surprise hire fees after you've booked.
Some Auckland dive shops charge up to $100 in additional rental fees on your PADI Open Water Course - we do not. All you need to bring is your swimwear, towel, lunch and a sense of adventure!
Big Brand dive gear for you to use during the course
We work with some of the world's top SCUBA equipment makers to ensure that you have quality, well maintained gear to use while you're learning.
This means you get a more comfortable experience in and out of the water, with brand name equipment you can trust, so less time worrying about the gear and more time concentrating on your learning!
