Scroll down for some trip info, but if you have any questions then just get in touch!
Niue is one of the largest Coral Atols in the world, but also one of the smallest countries! It's a super relaxed, friendly country with amazing people and stunning views.
Niue is a tropical island, warm during the day with a pleasant drop in temperature at night all year round. Average temperatures in July are 20 to 27 degrees. The NZD is the legal currency, making life really easy for visitors from NZ!
The island’s isolation and coral origins create an exciting coastline, there are no rivers or lakes which ensures crystal clear water year round. The whole island is dotted with a myriad of caves, sheltered rocky coves and secret beaches, some of which have yet to be explored. The Huvalu Rainforest is home to some amazing indigenous trees and has been designated as a Conservation Area to protect and conserve the islands primary rainforest and natural fauna and flora.
What's the diving like?
Beautiful and accessible! Diving is Niue is suitable for all levels of certified diver, so you'll have a great time no matter if you're a fresh PADI Open Water Diver or a super experienced PADI Professional.
Diving in Niue is easy yet rewarding, with an interesting mix of cavern, coral walls and drop offs to explore. Niue has incredibly clear water, due to the island being limestone with no streams, so you get visability that can reach 100m (!) and very rarely falls under 30m! You also get a wide variety of friendly marine life, making for an awesome dive and snorkel destination!
What about non divers?
Snorkelling is incredible in Niue! Imagine having the choice of small private beaches, swimming caves, coves and chasms where the likelihood of someone disturbing you is almost nil. Niue has dozens of these on offer for you to discover – and while you won’t be interrupted by people, you will be examined by the array of curious marine life!
Some of these hidden chasms were formerly reserved exclusively for ancient Niuean Kings, so they come with a rich history. Many of the areas are well equipped with information boards, picnic areas and are well signposted, so you can discover them with ease.
This trip so Niue is also designed to give you time out of the water (if you want it!). Generally diving is conducted in the mornings, so by early afternoon you're back on dry land and ready for some adventures on the Island (we'll hire some vehicles), or simply ready to relax with your family, friends and fellow divers!
Plus... don't forget the whales
Generally from July to October each year Humpback whales arrive in Niue’s waters to nurse their young. Niue is one of only a handful of places in the world where you are allowed to swim with the whales. Mother nature of course doesn’t guarantee an experience so whale interactions are strictly dependent on the whales being around, within range, settled and the weather conditions being safe.
If you're lucky enough to be in Niue when the whales are there it’s common for diners at the Matavai Resort to watch the whales performing from their table. At night, you can sometimes hear the whales slapping their giant fins against the water and you may even be kept awake by their calls, unlike anywhere else in the world - they can come that close because the water is so deep.
