Meet the team

The Waiheke Dive & Snorkel team is a small group of particularly awesome human beings, who love to be in the water sharing it with you as often as we can!

We're a diverse team, with a wide range of experience and knowledge but all share a commitment to our 'Three C's' philosophy - Community, Conservation & Customer service.

So, let's meet them!

Adam Whatton - Co-Owner / Director

Adam has years of experience in the dive industry both here in NZ and overseas. He's a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, EFR Instructor and holds qualifications from TDI, GUE and BSAC. He's managed dive businesses', worked as an Instructor / guide and supervised customer service teams all dedicated to diving and divers all around the world. When he's not diving, he enjoys making funny faces when being photographed (see above!) and getting out into the outdoors!

He's also an extremely keen advocate for community and conservation, engaging with many local projects in his spare time and is a Trustee for the Hauraki Gulf Conservation Trust.

Pippa Griffiths - Co-Owner / Divemaster

Pippa is a PADI Divemaster and BSAC Sports Diver. She's dived all over the world from NZ's stunning Poor Knights Islands all the way to the legendary Scapa Flow in Scotland. She's an active PADI Divemaster here in the shop, so you'll often see her diving and snorkelling!

Jacob Alexander - Ops Supervisor

Jacob, or Jake as everyone calls him, has been with us right from the start - he was literally the first person to join the team when we started up back in December 2017! Jake is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, a EFR Instructor and also holds qualifications from GUE plus is also a Mares service tech. When Jake isn't diving with us, he's usually volunteering on the coastguard boat as a member of their amazing rescue team!

Dr. Jenny Hillman - Senior Instructor

Jenny is a PADI IDC Staff instructor and EFR Instructor with huge amounts of experience. When she's not enjoying stunning Waiheke she can be found all around NZ (and, if we're honest, the world) being a super awesome marine scientist in her role for Auckland University's Marine Science department. She has been integral to the development and implementation of multiple marine restoration and study programs here in the Hauraki Gulf, and if you're a NZ resident you've probs seen her chatting about the ocean on TV!

Lucy O'Nions - PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

Previous & Seasonal Team Members

We can't move forwards without remembering where we've been, so it's important that we chat about those who've been part of this journey so far, joining us for peak seasons or part time roles!

Jack O'Brien (2019/20 Season) - Jack was our awesome Snorkelling and Dive guide for the 19/20 summer, and it was so much fun having him here with us! His great sense of humour and amazing commitment to his customers made him a pleasure to work with every day!

Johanna Marttala (2018/19 Season) - Jo joined us purely on a casual basis for the season, but she made a huge impact! From her infectious 'always happy' style to her infinite love of the oceans, we (and you all) loved spending time with Jo whenever she was here!

Jed Newett (2018/19 Season) - Jed was a full time Instructor for the season, and brought his super chilled Kiwi style to Waiheke Dive! Nothing was too tough for Jed, and every challenge completed in such a laid back way with a smile that it just relaxed us all!

Hannah-Lene Borg (2017/18 Season) - What can we say about Hannah! A 'first season' team member with Jake, she was such a pleasure to work with and was absolutely loved by her customers. Her style (aka keeping us all in line) was perfectly balanced by such a friendly demeanour that you couldn't help but do as she said!
